Teaching to Solve
Not sure how to get started? Here are some resources.
We have resources to appeal to different learning styles. Our Learn to Solve curriculum includes detailed lessons to teach each stage of the cube. The lessons use appropriate math vocabulary and make connections to related math concepts. In addition, we have songs and chants to help students remember the algorithms. Other resources, including a sample schedule and teaching tips, help motivate learners of all ages.
I facilitated it and they taught themselves. It was cool to see how much they could teach each other. Audrey Brian Utah
Lesson 1: Meeting the Cube
In this lesson, students will learn the parts of the Rubik’s Cube and how they move. They will learn the notation for each of the moves of the cube and practice following sequences of turns. Download the resources for this lesson by clicking the buttons in this box.
Solving the 2x2 Rubik’s Cube
Learning to solve the 2x2 cube uses 3 of the same algorithms that are used in our 3x3 solve. The 2x2 is a good introduction to cubing because the goal is achieved with fewer steps. It is good for solvers of all ages.
Lesson 2: Teaching the WHITE Cross
Having learned the basic structure and moves of the cube, students will learn how to make the WHITE cross in this lesson. Download the resources for this lesson by clicking the buttons in this box.
Lesson 4: Teaching the Middle Layer
Having mastered the WHITE face, in this lesson students will learn how to solve the middle layer of the cube. Download the resources for this lesson by clicking the buttons in this box.
